Applications are open for the Sino-ASEAN Network of Forestry Research Institutes (SANFRI) Visiting Scholar Program 2024-2025. The SANFRI Visiting Scholar Program (VSP) aims to support competent young researchers in conducting scientific research and academic exchanges in sustainable forest management and rehabilitation.
The Yunnan Academy of Forestry and Grassland (YAFG) of China hosts the Program and offers scholars 3 or 6-month visits to YAFG to join research programs in the fields of silviculture, forest ecology, biological engineering, forest product processing, economic forestry, forest pest and disease management, and desertification control, etc.

Funding
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation on campus
- Monthly allowance of CNY 2,300(pre-tax)
- One round-trip ticket for international travel; and
- Accident insurance
Eligibility
- Citizenship of an ASEAN member economy;
- Be recommended by a member institute of SANFRI;
- Under 45 years old; and
- Holding a doctorate in forestry or a related field (or a master’s degree with 3-year+ work experience in forestry or a bachelor’s degree with 5-year+ work experience in forestry).
Desired requirements

- Having a strong background and interest in forestry research and management; and
- Adequate command of spoken and written English or Chinese.
Expectations
Upon the completion of the visits, funded scholars are required to submit:
- A technical report on research conducted during the visit.
- A summary of experience, lessons learned, and other reflections from the Program.
- Scholars sponsored for 6-month visits are expected to publish an academic article under YAFG guidance.
A certificate will be issued upon a technical review and approval.
Application
Application materials required include:
- Completed application form;
- Applicant’s resume;
- Applicant’s passport information page;
- Applicant’s diploma(s) in doctorate and all previous academic degrees or an equivalent degree from an accredited higher education institute in forestry or a related field;
- Other relevant materials deemed necessary to prove the applicant’s ability, such as certificates in language skills and academic publications.
