Applications are open for the HumAngle Fellowship on Reporting Conflict and Missing Persons 2026. HumAngle, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is calling for applications from middle-career and senior journalists in Nigeria for a 3-day fellowship on reporting conflict and missing persons. About the Fellowship

Nigeria has a missing persons problem, and because it is a problem born from conflict and armed violence, they both go hand in hand. The need for journalists in the country to report it ethically has never been more acute. Through the 3-day rigorous training, 10 selected senior and mid-career journalists from Nigeria will be introduced to a wide range of sessions that will better equip them to report these stories in trauma-informed and ethical ways.

Some of the areas to be covered are:

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

  • The nitty-gritty of human-centred conflict reporting: What are some trauma-informed frameworks to use when speaking with vulnerable sources? How do you get them to open up? How should the editing process go? What is chiseled out and what remains?
  • Understanding and reporting Nigeria’s missing persons problem: What is the scope of the problem? What do the laws say? How do we interact with victims’ families?
  • Psychosocial best practices to keep in mind for journalists and sources alike.
  • What is the place of radicalism and extremism in all this?

Costs

  • The fellowship is fully funded; all costs, including flights, accommodation, and meals, will be covered by the organisers.

Eligibility

  • Open to middle-career and senior journalists in Nigeria.
  • They are looking for conflict reporters who think very deeply about the craft and mechanics of the profession.
  • Freelancers are welcome to apply.
  • All participants must commit to the training in its entirety.

Application

Deadline for applications is October 14, 2025. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for virtual interviews before the final selection is made.
