Applications are open for the Allan Gray Makers StartUp Academy 2026. The Allan Gray Makers StartUp Academy is an 8-month incubation programme. It is designed to provide entrepreneurship training and comprehensive support to aspiring artisan entrepreneurs aiming to establish new businesses in the bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades.

The programme starts mid-April 2026 and lasts 8 months, during which time participants will receive the support and resources needed to help launch and grow their business.

Benefits

  • Participants will receive a transport allowance of R3,000 per month to help cover costs associated with attending the programme.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should be aged between 18-35.
  • Relevant trade: Bricklaying/Carpentry/Electrical/Plumbing.
  • Unemployed or self-employed (not studying full-time).
  • Qualified bricklayer, carpenter, electrician or plumber with a trade test.
  • OR, have 3 years work experience in the relevant trade and are ready to take the trade test.
  • OR, N2 Certificate and 3 years work experience in either the bricklaying, carpentry, electrical or plumbing trade.

Required documents include:

  • N2 Certificate/National Technical Diploma/ Trade Test if applicable
  • Proof of work experience/Service letters
  • National Senior Certificate (is advantageous)
  • Certified Copy of ID
