Applications are open for the Centre for International Security at the Hertie School International Security Fellowship 2026/2027. The Centre for International Security at the Hertie School offers non-stipendiary fellowships for researchers. This fellowship is destined for researchers working on topics related to the four core research areas of the Centre: nuclear policy, states and non-state actors, grand strategy, and digital technology and security.

Research fellows are appointed for either one semester (fall: September – January / spring: February – June) or for the entire academic year (September – June), but exceptions will be considered. Research fellows will be listed on the centre’s website, will benefit from access to the Hertie library and may be provided with desk space at the Centre, subject to availability.

Research fellows are expected to spend time at the Centre in Berlin and actively participate in the Centre’s activities, such as presenting their research in the research colloquium, attending Centre events, and contributing to research activities.

Eligibility

  • They welcome applications from junior as well as senior researchers who hold (or are in the processing of obtaining) a Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in political science, sociology or economics.
  • They encourage applications from citizens of all countries and particularly women and minorities.
