Nicole Kidman made a big little change to her hair for the 2025 Met Gala.
The Oscar winner graced the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit in New York City May 5, and it wasn’t just her custom black Balenciaga Couture dress that had jaws dropping.
Indeed, to lean into the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme’s “Tailored for You” dress code—which was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity—the 57-year-old ditched her signature long ‘do and debuted a short, neck-length haircut with brunette roots flowing out from beneath her signature blonde locks.
As for the motivation behind Nicole’s surprise hair transformation? Her hairstylist Adir Abergel gave some insight.
“Met Gala 2025: The Superfine tailored short cut,” the stylist wrote on Instagram May 5. “The inspiration was a tailored short cut that brought out the essence of Dandyism on Nicole Kidman.”
